Position Summary
Challenging full-time county government position requires accuracy and thorough knowledge of accounting concepts and principles. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel. Experience with PeopleSoft accounting system beneficial. Responsible for reviewing and auditing select county transactions, including grants with fiscal and compliance requirements, budget preparation, updating the county accounting systems, develop and implement internal controls for departments, and other complex accounting functions. Must be motivated and capable of working on multi-tasks with defined time constraints. Education requirements: Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Accounting or Business and 2 years of professional work experience preferred. Hire rate: $29.819 per hour. Essential Duties and Responsibilities.
- Responsible for reviewing and auditing select County transactions, including grants for fiscal and compliance requirements
- Assist in updating the county accounting systems
- Design, develop and implement internal audit procedures for operating departments
- Assist in preparing various costing and analysis
- Provide assistance in closing preparations
- Accounting presentations of accounting material in training sessions
- Assist in the preparing of miscellaneous account reports
- Prepare and analyze statements and reports for operating departments
- Assist in all accounting functions as directed.
- Provide assistance in budget preparations
- Provide recommendations of system work design/redesign
- Responsible for account and grant reconciliations
- Review and prepare individual grant reimbursement claims to state/federal government
- Assist in allocating insurance costs to various departments and prepare journal entry for charge back
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting/business and two years of professional work experience
- Computer experience required
Knowledge and Skills Required.
- Ability to perform complex accounting processes
- Knowledge of modern office equipment practices and procedures
- Knowledge of business English, grammar and spelling
- Ability to maintain complete and orderly records
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all records
- Ability to accurately type 35 words per minute
- Ability to use good judgements in the performance of duties
- Ability to accomplish multi-tasks with given time constraints
- Ability to perform duties with accuracy and effectively carry out all written and oral instructions
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff of various county departments
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift/carry/push/pull at least 50 pounds
- Frequent bending, lifting, twisting, stretching, squatting, sitting, standing and walking
