Teach For America is proud to partner with Breakthrough Collaborative to bring an exciting opportunity to evolve our educational landscape and create educational equity for our nation’s children. Every summer, Breakthrough seeks dynamic undergraduates to join their team in one of 25 cities across the country.

About Breakthrough Collaborative:
At Breakthrough, we seek undergraduates who offer diversity in a range of categories, including representation, major, and intended occupational pathway. We want the students in our program to be exposed to a wide variety of teachers over the summer, that will generate the vision they will adopt for themselves as they set their course into college. You might be an aspiring educator, or exploring this path for the first time – what unites us is a shared commitment to educational equity and a genuine passion for guiding exceptional students. We thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, always pushing ourselves to grow.

Your Role:
As a Breakthrough Teaching Fellow, you’ll step into a supportive community that prioritizes your growth and the students’ success. You’ll receive comprehensive training, ongoing support, and opportunities to lead in the classroom. Throughout the summer, you’ll take on leadership roles, embracing creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving. Under the mentorship of seasoned educators, you’ll collaborate with your Teaching Fellow peers to plan and teach classes, manage classrooms, mentor students, lead exciting field trips, and evolve as an educator and leader. A summer at Breakthrough will not only prepare you for a career in education, but will also cultivate professional skills that set you apart in any field.

Your Impact:
As a Breakthrough Teaching Fellow, you will:

  • Engage in a summer teaching and leadership adventure with a living stipend provided
  • Cultivate expertise in presentation, public-speaking, collaboration, and leadership
  • Benefit from 100+ hours of teaching and leadership training
  • Teach at one of our 25 affiliates across the U.S.
  • Develop lesson planning, classroom management, instructional strategies, feedback techniques, and other vital teaching tools
  • Facilitate academic and enrichment classes
  • Lead family conferences and actively contribute to team meetings
  • Receive regular coaching from experienced educators
  • Collaborate with outstanding undergraduate Teaching Fellows
  • Inspire a diverse group of motivated students, undergraduates, and professionals within a dedicated, hardworking, and fun community

The Breakthrough Experience:
Teaching Fellows will instruct at one of our 25 unique affiliates, spanning 23 cities across the United States. While each affiliate caters to the specific needs of its community, a typical Breakthrough summer includes:

  • A nine-week teaching residency comprising two weeks of training, six weeks of classroom instruction, and one week of reflection and evaluation
  • An immersive daily schedule that often extends beyond regular business hours, five days a week and occasionally on weekends.

Financial Support:
Breakthrough offers a living stipend for Teaching Fellows, with stipend amounts and limited housing varying by affiliate and individual circumstances. Use our comprehensive Site Directory listing affiliates, program dates, stipend details, and housing options as your primary resource when applying.
