My academic background involves a BS from UNCW in Criminology I decided to attend the MSM program in 2022 and do not regret it. The program helped shape my path by encouraging a problem-solving mindset and providing me with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to obtain a great first job right out of graduation. What helped me the most in terms of placement of this position was the accounting and finance education provided throughout the program that I didn’t have before. That in combination with a business problem solving mindset sets students up for success wherever they decide to go in the future. Advice that I would give students is to take advantage of all the opportunities the business school offers when it comes to networking events, communicating during presentations, and soak in as much knowledge as possible on the financial and analytic side of things. If you have a great understanding of accounting, budgeting, and data analytics the business school will set you up for success in the future. Many employers are looking for financial knowledge beyond that of just a basic fundamental understanding of accounting so pay attention and look to further your knowledge to get a step ahead.
